Co-founder Ilya Sutskever Announces Departure From OpenAI

Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of OpenAI, has announced his departure from the company after nearly ten years. Sutskever shared the news on the social media platform X.

“After nearly a decade, I have decided to leave OpenAI. The company’s progress has been nothing short of miraculous, and I am confident that OpenAI will develop AGI that is safe and beneficial. It has been an honor and a privilege to work together, and I will dearly miss everyone. So long, and thanks for everything,” he wrote in his post on X.

Sutskever also hinted at his future plans: “I am excited about what comes next — a project that holds deep personal significance to me, the details of which I will share in due time.”

As co-founder and Chief Scientist at OpenAI, Sutskever has been a pivotal figure in the development of technologies like ChatGPT. He is recognized as one of the foremost experts in the artificial intelligence field, consistently offering valuable perspectives on navigating the complex and rapidly changing AI landscape.
