On Sunday, May 7, Rīga’s annual marathon took place with a record number of participants running the full marathon, half-marathon, 10 km and 5 km distances. Latvia’s top athletes, Aleksandrs Raščevskis and Amanda Krūmiņa, secured the laurels of Latvian champions over the full distance on Sunday.
Raščevskis achieved a personal best with an impressive time of 2 hours, 25 minutes and 43 seconds. Krūmiņa, winner of the 2021 event, also performed exceptionally well and secured another victory by finishing the race in just 2 hours and 50 minutes. Her closest competitor, Anna Kļučnika, the 2020 Latvian champion, finished the race three minutes and 56 seconds later.
In the half-marathon, Dmitrijs Serjogins won the men’s event, while Ilona Marhele was the first woman to cross the finish line.
This year, the “Rimi” Riga Marathon attracted a total of 23,751 participants from 79 countries, setting a new record. The organizers announced this after collecting all the applications.
