Renault, the French automotive manufacturer, has announced a significant investment of 300 million euros ($323.25 million) in its Sandouville factory in northern France. This investment is earmarked for the production of next-generation electric vans starting in 2026.

The company intends to expand its current workforce at the plant, adding 550 jobs to the existing 1,850 employees over the coming four years, as outlined in a recent statement.

This initiative to manufacture a new light van, aimed primarily at enhancing the efficiency of last-mile parcel delivery, falls under the ambit of Renault’s electric vehicle division, Flexis. Flexis is a collaborative venture involving Renault, Swedish automaker Volvo, and the French maritime and logistics conglomerate CMA CGM.

In a significant development in March, Renault and Volvo received the green light from regulatory bodies to proceed with the joint venture, a project in which the CMA CGM Group has also expressed its commitment to invest up to 120 million euros, as confirmed by Renault.
