The Embassy of Ireland, in collaboration with the Latvian Writers Union, the National Library of Latvia, and Literature Ireland, is set to host an engaging poetry reading and discussion event on September 7th at the National Library in Rīga. The event, titled “Words Evoking Imagery: The Art of Poetry in Lesser-Known Languages,” will commence at 18:00 in the Klīversala Hall, located on the library’s first floor.
Esteemed Irish poets Áine Uí Fhoghlú and Seosamh Ó Murchú, alongside Latgalian poetry specialist Anna Rancāne and Livonian language expert Valts Ernštreits, will delve into the intricacies of crafting poetry in smaller languages. The discussion will be complemented by poetry readings in both Irish and English, with Latvian translations provided.
The discussion will be conducted in English, offering attendees a unique perspective on the creative process. Additionally, the Irish poets will surprise the audience with pop-up poetry readings on September 7th, scheduled for 11:00 and 14:00 in the Library’s Atrium on the first floor.
