Latvia’s parliament has made its decision, electing the experienced Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics as the nation’s upcoming president, according to an announcement by Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins on Wednesday.
With his new role, Rinkevics will assume the responsibility of representing Latvia, an esteemed member of the European Union and NATO, at the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius this July.
At the age of 49, Rinkevics steps into this predominantly ceremonial position after a commendable tenure as Latvia’s foreign minister, which began in 2011. His dedication to public service also encompasses previous roles within the country’s civil service.
